-God's Love and His Pleasure-

There are SO many "things" in our lives constantly crying out for us to give them attention. These days...whether it is entertainment, jobs, social, education, or family, things that excite us and give us pleasure...they all demand time and attention and...oh, yeah...then there's God. He longs for our attention as well. I say that purposefully as an afterthought because so many times...more often than we would like to admit...for many of us He can be an afterthought.

BUT, we know God's love is immeasurable, never failing, constant and unique to each and every one of us! We know nothing we do can separate us from His love or make Him love us any more or less than He always has! SO, anytime you feel UNLOVED, receive forgiveness for taking that feeling in, reject the lie, and ask the Holy Spirit to remind you about the supreme price that was paid just to bring you back into the Father’s presence. Isn't that a beautiful revelation!!!???

We know all these things because His Word says so, and He is not a man that He should lie. The revelation of His love IS life changing…especially for so many of us who were beaten down, hurt, and torn by rejection and disappointment in our lives...and I am pretty sure ALL of us can relate to this at some level. His love is unconditional and this revelation is FOUNDATIONAL for our life in Christ. BUT…If we stop here…if we end with a revelation knowledge of His unending, never failing love for us, not only may we make God an afterthought amongst all the hustle and bustle and “things” in our day...we may end up thinking, "Well, He won’t love us any less, so I’ll just do ____ and ____ first, then seek the Lord later."

If we don't put Him first, we can end up missing out on some of the BEST things the Lord has in store for us! But what does that mean? Put Him first? It sounds like it could be a lot of work. Religiously following strict rules and laws…praying every morning or all day long maybe, reading and studying, ignoring all your friends and family, and giving up everything that is fun. WRONG! It has to do with the HEART attitude.

Let's take a look at pleasing God. We understand that God's love is unconditional, but what about His pleasure? Unlike His love, His pleasure in us is something we are completely responsible for on our own. His Pleasure in us is dependent upon the choices we make in life.

Our life goal should be, as believers, to be a delight to our Father...to be passionate in our pursuit of fully pleasing Him. Remember, this is a heart attitude, not some sort of New Year’s resolution to work on out of your own strength or willpower.

Paul writes: 'But neither exile nor homecoming is the main thing. Cheerfully pleasing God is the main thing, and that’s what we aim to do, regardless of our conditions. Sooner or later we’ll all have to face God, regardless of our conditions. We will appear before Christ and take what’s coming to us as a result of our actions, either good or bad.' 2 Cor. 5:9-10 MSG

I LOVE how he says it is the MAIN THING, "Cheerfully pleasing God is the main thing, and that’s what we aim to do." THIS should be our main driving motivation…our heart’s desire in every single one of us…to be fully pleasing to our Father. Our ultimate goal should reflect a life that shines with the delight of our Heavenly Father!

So my question to you is, “What's your "MAIN THING"?

I promise you, if nothing else takes preeminence over pleasing God, and pleasing Him becomes our drive and goal, we will find two things that are impossible to obtain any other way in life. God's promise to you in this is that you will find REAL abounding joy and complete fulfillment.

Making Jesus Lord, and not just our loving Savior, is as easy as asking from the heart, "Is what I am feeling, and thinking pleasing to You Lord? If I act this way, will my actions bring You delight? I don’t want to grieve, quench or resist you...in any way.”

As we take on this challenge together, let us be reminded throughout our daily routines of how much He loves us without end and, because of this love, we love Him…and may that love for Him be the driving force behind us as we desire to bring pleasure to His heart above all else. His grace is enough to empower us to bring Him delight, with joy regardless of our circumstances!

As Father’s day approaches let us honor our earthly fathers and our heavenly Father. Let's make "cheerfully pleasing God" our main thing and see what happens. All I can say is, "Joy and Fulfillment, my friends. Joy and Fulfillment."

Blessings,

Pastor Jason
